Ötztal Natural Park – right alongside the mountain

“Natural park” is a classification with which the Tyrolean local government distinguishes areas with a high amount of naturally historic appeal and which aim to rejuvenate and impart knowledge.

Natural experiences

Experience and enjoy nature up-close and uncover history.  Themed routes impart the nature and culture of the Ötztal in its multifaceted facets and forms.  You lead us to the Ötztal treasure box, to the hot spots in the Ötztal nature park.

 

Natural park activities

Actively explore and experience nature in the Ötztal – this is well catered for in the Ötztal natural park.  The options range from arduous long hikes, to pleasant themed hikes, up to high altitude and summit hikes.  High alpine huts provide cosy accommodation and valuable protection.  You can also be sporting and do some climbing in the Ötztal.

Special features of the Ötztal natural park

• The Wildspitze at 3768m – the highest mountain in the Tyrol
• More than 50 years of natural history research
• The highest marsh in the eastern Alps on the Rofenberg (2760m)
• The Stuibenfall – the highest waterfall in the Tyrol
• The biggest and longest glacier in the entire east-alpine area (Hintereisferner, Gr.Vernagtferner, Gurglerferner)
• The finding place of the Ötzi glacier mummy
• “The oldest glacier drawing in the world” – a water colour from 1601 about the “glacies continua et perpetua”
• The highest apiary in Tyrol
